when i bought this hammock, it was for my long awaited vacation to florida that i took with a friend.we both love the beach and we thought hammocks would be great to bring for the trip.i bought the travel hammock and received a great hammock and the ropes were included!my friend bought some other hammock (paid more and didn't even get ropes to hang it, yuk!)
i used it just about everyday i was there, this thing is great. i wish the vacation wasn't over cuz now i have to wait for warmer weather now to relax in my hammmock again.

Coleman Dynasty Folding Table Review

NOTE:This got one star because I could not give it zero or below zero!!

I used it ONE - COUNT IT , ONE - time and both sides of the table BOWED!

I was so disapponted in this table.My father-in-law had an aluminum Coleman table for years.I thought this was similar.BOY WAS I POORLY MISTAKEN!

First, the table tops are FLIMSY PARTICLE BOARD!You can not tell this from the picture!!!

To make things worse, when I got the table, the metal edges holding down the 'flimsy particle board' were bent up.I needed it for a party so I could not return it.

How someone could use this camping (as the product description at the time stated) is beyond me due to the bowing issue.It would not hold up to water-related events like rain.Good forbid you do not catch a spill.

My recommendation is to buy an all plastic folding table at K-mart or Home Depot for a few dollars more and almost the same weight!!!!

This crushed my highly-rated image of Coleman.I'm surprised they let their name on.

This bivy will be good enough for backcountry recon or backpacking.It is light, but could be lighter.It seems as thought the zippers are sturdy, a plus, but also a place they could have lightened.The stakes that came with mine are heavy alloy.I recommend replacing them with lighter aluminum or opt not to use them.You could use this bivy with no stakes and no poles to save weight.The best option seems to be using one pole and one stake (hopefully lighter than stock) on the head end of the bivy.

Works as good as any Zippo, except in saltwater :P It clips to my belt on camping trips, and for that great gift, it is cursed with a reserve the size of a Bic, but just look at it! Besides, it's refillable! After my first broke (guess how) the ignission became slightly uncalibrated, meaning it closes without tension, but if it worked, it wouldn't bother me, but I don't know about you. I've bought 3, the third was a gift. SHE LOVED IT!

I understand that the comfort rating in the description has a question mark by it, and I would be more accepting of that, EXCEPT on the package it is ABUNDANTLY CLEAR the the comfort rating is 50 degrees F.
It says it in more than one place, and says it in HUGE type on the front of the package. I wish I could attach a picture to show it.
Additionally, on another part of the package, it shows that the Tenderfoot sleeping bag is comfortable from around 45degrees, to around 55 degrees, and it has listed the temperature ratings for all of the other Texsport sleeping bags.
(if you want one that is rated for 40 degrees, get the one called the "Caprock".)
Other than that, the sleeping bag seems to be of good quality, but we haven't used it yet,

Ok let me start by saying I'm researching survival stuff (best bang for the buck). The one thing I wanted to let people know is you may get cold at zero degrees or 15 degrees but you will be alive the next day, that is something that people get confused on with sleeping bags. Now, after I got this bag out I climbed inside remembering the previous reviews on ripping fabric I carefully zipped it up and could reall feel the bag heating up. Everything was going fine with a little care until I tried to close the top red part around my head with the pull tie.....it ripped, fabric tore, stitching popped, and I was instantly disappointed because of how a few little odd ends can ruin a great product. The bags tearing in certain areas kills the deal for me, I'll try and repair it but don't have alot of faith it will hold together for future use. Find a better bag to buy guys

Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10.
Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night.
Goose or No Goose?
The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use.
All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget.
Bags for All Shapes
Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips.
Pad Yourself
No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

I bought this for my wife for our backpacking trips.She was mainly concerned with how "cute" it was, but I needed to know that it was functional. It is a great light.With four LEDs and 4 light settings it is great for all situations.

It has High, medium, and low settings, plus a blinking emergency setting. The light is very bright and you can see for a good 30 ft ahead of you with no problem distinguishing objects Some say that changing between the settings is hard because you have to partially push down on the button, and if you push to far it turns it off.I had this trouble when i borrowed it from my wife, but she quickly came over and did it for me.So it is really just getting use to it.It is by no means hard, just need to get the feel for it.I would recommend this light to anyone who wants a water tight, stylish and functional headlight.

Uhhh...what can I say. First off, I recieved a Merlin Softie 3 in a Special Forces 1 stuff sack. I dont know whether Im reviewing a special forces bag or a softie 3. Still dont know what to think of that. Maybe thats just the way they roll or some manufacturing error. I dunno. Secondly, I used it in mild temps (40F-50F) and was pretty uncomfortable. Ibought the snugpak fleece liner and that helped but now youre talking $200 for the bag and another $60 for the liner...too expensive to justify keeping. I sent it back. If youre willing to freeze just to have a really really compact bag then go for it. When youre out in the wild or even in your back yard being warm and comfortable is key. Quality sleep is key. Its light, compact and well madebut giving it a 40F comfort rating is stretching it. I wouldnt use this bag below 50F. I wouldnt mind trying one of their heavier bags just to see how they perform.

I have one of these for a while and have used it about 4-5 times. I've taken it on a kayak camping trip, and other tent camping trips. The small size makes it ideal if you have limited space for gear.
I have rated this 3 stars because it is very difficult to pack into the provided compression bag. My bag has holes torn in it, and last time I packed up the sleeping bag the draw-string at the top broke. I am now looking for a replacement compression pack.

This was an OEM replacement for my nalgene bladder and I'm extremely happy with it. I received the one I wanted (even though the picture shows a couple different ones)and yes, it came with an extra magnet. Now I don't have to switch everything between big pack and day pack. I really like the shut-off feature and the magnetic mount. Usually when I'm riding (or hiking,) I just spit out the bite-valve when I'm done drinking and it finds it's own way back to its holder, this is really convenient while riding on the trail.

Katadyn Optimus Nova Review

This stove serves specific needs. If your need is to travel really light and fast, are at low altitudes, merely want to heat your food and run, or heat your water and dump it into a grub bag, this is overkill.

There are alternate multifuel stoves both (Primus, MSR Whisperlite, and Coleman) but each has it's own problems. There have been safety concerns with Coleman. Others swear by Svea, but I do not have experience with that one.

The Optimus Nova used to be a Brunton product, and had a full metal plunger and housing. This is my item and I own, and I will put up an image shortly. Mine does not have the convenient hose-twist as the Optimus Nova Plus now does, but it is extremely sturdy. The previous device had a purge application (which I assume is still the case) wherein you lay the bottle on the "off" side to expend gas pressure following use and remove the hose for packing.As others have stated, there are several o-rings and parts which should be carried on the case of failure.

My stove is sturdy and even. I cannot say this for the MSR whisperlight as it was always shaky. Additionally, a simmer adjustment on that stove was a joke. Similarly, this stove rocks over the MSR dragonfly in it's compactibility and performance.

Apparenly, the old pump and priming mechanisms were made better than they are now. I cannot speak to the manufacturing quality since the company was purchased by Katadyn. While I cannot speak on this company insofar as stoves, but have been pleased with their assumption responsibility over the "Pur" water filter brand.

I demand a quality device that rarely fails, and can be repaired if it does. This device will burn almost any kind of fuel, and can be shipped to a destination prior to excursions. Compressed fuel stoves are a mistake in this regard. Stoves that handle liquid and compressed gas rarely do both well. This device is not the lightest, and is loud. However, the simmer control is excellent, and the high power is tremendous.

An argument made against the stove regarding the lack of repair items available. True enough, you need to order these pieces before your trip via mail. One commenter lamented the lack of parts available on the AT at various stops. However, you can forgot having any parts available for any stove in 99 percent of your backcountry destinations.

I did not give the stove 5 stars due to my inability to completely disassemble it for cleaning and repair. There may be a trick I am missing, but I can't quite get the simmer valve stem through the notch. Part of it may unscrew and mine simply does not.

I cook a lot, and demand a fair amount of versatility on the trail. I bring a tin pie dish for fish I catch, and pack a older Evernew pot set (REI bought this company I believe), within which I use a Bake-packer grid and prepare quick breads within glad bags. I need a good stove with sustained and controlled heat. This stove is a proven tool, but you have to know your gear (f your pump leather goes dry you need to oil it, etc.). Good luck.

Princeton Tec Predator Camo Headlamp Review

This is a decent headlamp for the low cost. It turns on/off by loosening or tightening the lens cover. The beam is not adjustable. The batteries last a long time and mine came with a spare bulb. It does not appear to be a specialized bulb and a replacement can be bought whererever batteries, bulbs etc are sold. The head harness is adjustable and comfortable. It takes only 2 AA batteries and therefore is less bulky and has no exposed wire as other similar, more expensive headlamps generally do. If you need an occasionally used light on a budget, this would be a good choice. Made in USA!

2 minor annoyances.

a.) Zipper gets EASILY stuck and jammed in fabric while using. This can be challanging when you have to get out of the tent in the night or want to make adjustments.

b.) The stuff sack that comes with the bag is really nice; however, once the bag is out for the first time you will NEVER get it back into the stuff sack (oh-my did we try!!!).
We traded out an older bags larger stuff sack to now use with the SlumberJack.It's just kind of a shame that they didn't use a bigger stuff sack, because it is a nice one.

This being said I would buy this one again, and would recommend it as a good economical bag.The features that were listed as a concern above are easily corrected by buying a $200 bag...

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock Review

I received this as a gift last year and promptly took it on a 3 day wilderness expedition. When you have to carry everything you could possibly need over 3 days of exploring, weight matters a lot, and this hammock weighs near nothing. You will also appreciate how relaxing it is to not have to deal with uneven/rocky ground that hurts almost as bad a too heavy pack. It is also setup and ready for use in a few minutes... very simple to get camp ready after a long day of hiking and mapping. My only beef with it is that the mesh is not even remotely flame retardant, as a stray ember from our small campfire hit it and burned a 1 inch hole nearly instantly. Nothing that the almighty piece of duct tape couldn't fix, but it would've been a great feature.

Between this and my Katadyn, I'll never hit a trail without it!

I bought this because it was the lowest priced queen size with battery pump.Here's what I learned:
1.Use only the freshest batteries.Older batteries won't work.The pump will pump but not enough pressure to actually fill the mattress.
2.Inflate only through the built in port.Do not inflate through the side valve.In fact, never open that valve!After several opening and closing, the side valve leaked on me and in an hour or two the mattress completely deflated.
3. Do notuse the side valve to infalte or deflate.See #2.
4. Be very careful getting onto the mattress.Do not step on it, put pressure close to the edge, especially around the built in port area.
5. It gets cold on this mattress.Sleep on a blanket a sleeping bag.
6. Buy only from places with good return policy.I returned my first one to Amazon after it leaked.
7. Study carefully the way it is folded in the box if you ever want to put it back in.
8.If you have the money, spend more and get more with another mattress.

Princeton Tec EOS LED Headlamp Review

The center portion of the beam isridiculously tight and nonadjustable. I am going to rig up a diffuser to make this lamp appropriate for close-up task lighting but one should be integrated.
Kudos to Princeton Tec for making an affordable regulated waterproof 1 watt headlamp, though. Everything else is A-OK.

UPDATE: search online for "modified Princeton Tec Eos" to find out how to change the LED in this headlamp to one with more light spill so it doe3snt look as much like a spotlight. the new led is more efficient and runs cooler as well. This mod combined with freshly charged 2700mah rechargeable batteries makes this headlamp perform very very well at a price that can't be beat.

Apex Pro, Black Review

There is a new model revision, which DOUBLES the light output from 60 lumens (which is good out to +/- 70yards) to 130 Lumens (good out to +/- 120yrds). This goes for all apex models (the AA model, the CR123 model here and the external battery pack model)

As of December '08, there are a lot of resellers trying to dump the older model, which are selling in the $60-$70 price range. The newer model is selling for around $90. If a reseller's advertisement doesn't list it as the "New 130 Lumen" model, then it probably isn't. The only way to determine which version you are holding in your hand is to look for the "130 Lumen" sticker on the retail box, and the model number, which is now "APXR" (it was APX on the older model).

IMO, Spend the extra $20 to get the higher Lumen model. It will allow you to leave you high-output flashlight at home and just use this light for all your daily outdoor adventure needs. With the older model, I always carried a second flashlight of at least 120 Lumens (preferably around 200) for long range spotlight needs. This new model takes care of almost all my spot needs now, so it really does double duty and is well worth the extra $20 or so.

As for which model to get (AA or CR123), it comes down to if you have any other CR123 flashlights (I have 5 of them), or if you are weight sensitive (this one is light, the AA model is kind of heavy!). If I didn't have any other CR123 devices, I'd probably live with the weight of the AA model, since you can buy bulk AA's at Costco or Sam's Club for very cheap.

Black Diamond Gizmo Headlamp Review

This is a fantastic headlamp. Besides this headlamp, I also own the Black Diamond Zenix IQ.However, I find myself using the Gizmo 99% of the time however. The reasons I prefer the Gizmo are as follows:
- the Gizmo weighs significantly less than the Zenix IQ
- unlike the Zenix IQ, the Gizmo does *not* have a battery pack in the back of the strap....making the Gizmo perfect for use as a reading lamp while laying in bed.
- the Gizmo is more compact (and lighter), making it easier to carry in a pocket and/or to carry with you in a backpack for "just in case I need a headlamp" situations.

Although I would still recommend the Zenix IQ as a great headlamp for long hikes (provides more output light when you really need to see distances for unknown terrain), I find that I use my Gizmo 99% of the time because in its low-output mode it is the perfect reading lamp and in its high-output mode it provides plenty of light for walking around a campsite, etc.

I bought this as an early Christmas present for my fiance' that had just bought a new Mustang.#1 the instructions tell you to put the entire frame together and then you have to take each part apart to put the tarp on.#2 Took over 6 hours to put together.2 people working on it for 3 hours and then 4 people working on it for 3 more hours. 4 days after we put it together, we had about 15 minutes of bad wind and pulled the anchors out of the ground and it went tumbling through the yard.#3 When I called to file a claim, they pointed out that in the instructions, it says not to "permanently" use the 15" anchors that were given and that they suggested the 30" anchors that they sold for another $30 which was the rebate amount.After telling them that I had used the 15" anchors "temporarily" like the instructions had said, they argued that it was not covered under the warranty.More than half of the shelter parts were bent including screws, poles and anchors.FYI it is only less than 2 weeks old and we took the entire thing apart and it is already rusting.If there were a way to rate this item less than one star, I would!!!!!!!!!!!!What a piece of junk.

UPDATE 3/18/2010:
I used this to get through our recent power outage. The house was 40 degrees and I stayed warm (as long as I kept my head tucked in) and relatively comfortable. I also want to note that the memory foam area at the top has stayed pretty well. I would GLADLY get another one, but the construction of this bag is so strong that I think this is going to last a LONG time.

I bought one of these for myself, and a different one for my son for a camping trip we took. This thing is warm. At night it was about 50 degrees and I had to open it up a bit. This is not a bad thing, and I wasn't about to buy 2 different bags. Opening the bag makes it quite comfortable and I highly recommend it. It rained all night when we were out, and while we were in a tent, and we had pads, I was pretty comfortable and slept very well. A little background...I hadn't gone camping in over 25 years....ehem. My son was dying to go, and I used to love it. I was thinking it was a big mistake. It wasn't. We had a great time, and the bag is great. The only negatives I can give is that it is a little tough to wrap it back up, and mostly, it's heavy. I know 3.5 lbs. doesn't seem like a lot, but it all adds up. I thought it was 1 lb., but I misread, and it is 1 lb. of thermalC fill. If you don't think that you will need a thirty degree bag, save the weight and buy a lighter bag. I know there are lighter 30 degree bags, but I haven't tried them, and I don't know how warm they will keep you. This one should easily keep you warm. At the gold box price, this is a great deal. Construction is very good, and it doesn't feel like it will rip/tear easily. It's nice and long, I'm 5'11" and I have plenty of legroom.

First thing I did upon receiving these gloves was to put them on and put my hands under some very hot running water (+60C/+140F) for 5 min. The outer lining of the glove got really hot but on the inside -my hands felt cool and dry.

Next I tried the extreme cold. It's some -16C (3F) outside, so I went for a walk. My face got cold right away but these gloves kept my hands warm.

I especially appreciate that it's thin and the abrasive pimples on the palm side of the glove. It allows for great precision and helps operate even the most delicate instruments while outside in the cold.

The only downside I can think of - these gloves look really cheap. But hey, who cares about looks when it's bloody freezing outside ;-)

I was so anticipating this pump.Based on the description and the picture, I could plug it in at home and use it, I could plug it in the car and use it, and it was rechargeable so I could use it in the middle of no where.What a great combination, and at a reasonable price, too.

Guess what...it doesn't work that way.When it's plugged in at home or in the car, the pump doesn't work.There is a switch where the power cord plugs into the unit that turns the unit off when it's charging.It only works off the rechargeable batteries.Is that silly or what.So if you're at home and you want to use it, like, right now, you better hope that you started charging it yesterday.And then you're at the mercy of how charged the batteries are for your pump time.

I have a cell phone that works when it's charging.I have a camcorder that works when it's charging.I have a portable DVD player that works when it's charging.I didn't think I was expecting something out of the ordinary for this pump to work when it's charging, but it turns out I was.

I'm so bummed that I'm sending it back.

I purchased this bag from Target a few months ago.It's a great cold-weather bag, I've used it in temps down to 20F and have been very toasty in this thing.The removable top layer gives you nice flexibility, and can be used to augment your sleeping pad on warmer nights or as a pillow.My only issues are that it's a little too heavy for backpacking (but what do you expect from a $50 bag?), and it doesn't come with a compression sack.

About two years ago, I bought a Wenzel +25 degree oversize bag and fell in love with it the first night because of the comfort and roominess inside.I have been wanting a mate to it that could go to lower temperatures in the early spring and fall and decided to try this bag.

This bag has quite a bit more padding in it than my older bag and is like climbing intoa fluffy cloud that wraps around you and I have slept in 30 degree temps in complete comfort. This is one of the most comfortable bags I have ever slept in.

The zipper is double ended so you can unzip the bottom to let the feet breathe in warmer weather and still have the side zipped up. There is a velcro strap that goes above the zipper that holds the two halves of the bag together so that if you do a lot of turning in the night like I do, the zipper won't come unzipped.Very nice feature that I wish was on my other bag. There is also a fairly large padded strip behind the zipper that does a good job of keeping the cold from coming in through the zipper.

The large hood has a drawstring on it so that you can close it in around your face similar to a mummy bag.

One of the big things for me is the size of the bag.I am 6'3" tall and 210 lbs and I really love the room this bag has to offer both in length and width. I have plenty of room for my feet and I can turn over with ease.

The outside cover is a cotton like material that grips the flocked top of my air mattress and prevents the bag from sliding off in the middle of the night even with a lot of tossing and turning. This was a real problem for me with another bag I had that had a nylon covering.

All in all after having a number of trips with this bag this summer in a wide range of temps I haven't found any cons to this bag other than not wanting to get out of it in the morning.

Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Usa Progrip Tarp Clips (907250) Review

These clips are the best. The slide grip type may be good for lightweight use but these are able to be cranked down tight so they won't slip off the tarp. We get very high winds here and these clips haven't come loose when the slide type have.
PS: I think the $39.95 price is an error. I paid less than $1.00 each at a national sporting goods store 2 years ago. It must be $3.95 for four.

Very happy with this bed.The height, 18", makes it perfect for those of us no longer able to get up off the floor so easily. Have used it for 2 guests, first just an overnight, next usage was for 3 nights. The mattress stayed firm, no leaking. Easy and quick to inflate. To deflate I let the majority of air to escape by opening the plug and then used the electric pump to extract the remainder of air. By getting all the air out I was then able to refold the mattress small enough to fit on my linen closet shelf...right next to my guest towels!
Only negative is the edges do remain mushy and not supportive as you sit on the edge of the bed.Not a big deal.

10'x10' Deluxe Steel Frame Gazebo W Mosquito Curtain 2 Review

We ordered this gazebo because we wanted something to put over our hot tub for full privacy. Thus we needed both the mosquito netting and privacy shades. This was the only product on Amazon having both. It looked good, had nice neutral colors, so we ordered it. Took 2 construction-savvy men to set it up. It wasn't something I could've done with my husband alone. It looks really nice and has all the features we wanted but the material that the frame is made out of is cheap. Considering it was about $350 we expected a more solid frame. We've had it set up for about a week and it rained a bit this past week. The rain creates water pockets on the top of the canopy and one led to one of the poles of the frames bending. We've contacted the seller to see about getting a replacemement frame. We'll see how that goes. I do like the look and functionality of this but it's not feasible to take the cover off every time it rains and if we continue to get these water pockets, my fear is that all the frames will eventually bend and then break. Today we put some small holes thru the canopy flap and used wire ties to more solidly attach the canopy flaps to the frame hoping this will allow the water to roll off and stop creating these water pockets. I hope it works because I really want the privacy when in my hot tub and this is the perfect size, height, coloring, and like i said, has both the mosquito netting and privacy shades. I'll write more when I see what happens...

This filter seems to work well, but clogs more quickly than I'd expect.I have not used any other filters in recent years, so have no basis for comparison, but this filter seems to clog quickly when pumping seemingly clean water so that it gets hard to pump.This makes pumping a lot of work and slows it down.This filter belongs to our Scout Troop.I'll try a different filter when I buy one for myself.

Slumberjack Big Timber -20F Long Right Sleeping Bag Review

This sleeping bag is really great. It is far warmer than my other nylon bags, and comparable to a 6 inch thick down comforter. And I mean that in a good way. The cotton duck outer (like soft canvas) and comfy flannel inner is just awesome - and QUIET. I just love the quietness. All my older bags have been nylonwhich make a lot of rustling noises which bother me everytime I move (and anyone else trying to sleep nearby).

This SlumberJack Big Timber long sleeping bag is so cushy soft you almost don't need an air mattress. But you'll sleep better if you do have one. I can highly recommend the ThermaRest Base Camp air mattress. It's really great, and last for dozens of years! Therm-a-Rest Base Camp (Large) The one thing to be aware of is that no air mattress does well if you leave it all blown up in a hot trailer. It will pOp! or at least get a slow leak. If I hadn't done that, I'd still be using the same ThermaRest I got in the 1980's and slept on sharp rocks & broken glass without a puncture nor leak. Tough! So deflate it some before you leave it for the day (or season) and you'll never have a problem.

This sleeping bag has a BIG square foot end, so there is tons of unrestricted room for feet. Totally opposite of mummy bags. Zipper is good quality metal. I sometimes feel a slight draft near the zipper, but this bag is so warm that is ok - just slightly refreshing. This bag is wider than most, which is ok - I have plenty of room. But it might be a squeeze in a small tent. This is NOT a backpacking bag. It's too bulky & heavy to lug around all day. But it's perfect for car camping! It's possible to use this bag in the summer, but you will be opening it just to cool off about half the time. Get yourself another sleeping bag for summer.

This is the most comfortable winter sleeping bag I have ever had, and I'm happy to recommend it now.

EDIT: I actually have the 0 degree bag. I still love it.

It is light! 1 lbs. 7oz.Lots of room inside.I easily put my Therma-a-Rest GuideLite Full pad and Reg. Size Mummy Bag inside the sack.There is a lot of head room for all your clothes.I could stretch out my arms above my head inside the bivy, (I'm 5'11")

Cons
Maybe not best for winter weather camping.I used this bivy sack over the weekend camping out.The temperature dipped down around 10 degree Fahrenheit and a lot of condensation built up on my bag.The first night I slept with it totally zipped up.The second night I left my face out so that I wouldn't breathe on my down sleeping bag.Both nights my sleeping bag was damp.I am uncertain if it was just too cold to for the fabricate to breathe.I think it will work find in warmer weather.

There are four ultralight straight tent stakes to hold each corner in place.But in the future I will swap out the stakes with Sheppard's hook type of stake later.

I am eager to use this in spring to see how it does.

I enjoy walking and for many reasons I often end up walking after the sun sets.This LED flashlight illuminates a narrow beam with a range of about 80 feet.Unlike incandescent lamps this beam slices through dewey air.The flashlight is very light and compact.It is very comfortable to hold even for a 4 mile walk.Battery use is minimal and I finally replaced my first set after about 9 months of use.It took a short time to get used to twisting the light to turn it on and off but I am now thoroughly comfortable with that.I have ordered a second and give this light my highest recommendation.

extremely light-weight silk sleep sack with attached stuff sack & pillow slot.the silk fabric feels just wonderful against your skin.it is soft without being slidey like some silks.indeed, as i have seen mentioned in other reviews, this is not the most durable product & it does turn over with you at times.

the first problem is, of course, associated with the weight - less materials equals less weight, but also equals less durability. over time, it develops stretch marks & starts to fall apart along those lines.i actually sleep in it at home all the time, so the durability thing needs to be understood in that context.

the second problem happens with nighties or other sleep sacks as well - in short with any tube in your bed or sleeping bag not tacked down at the sides. you can tack it down by using safety pins through the stuff sack & some of the attached ties to whatever is handy - the mattress, the sleeping bag, etc. - if you are so inclined.

despite these two problems, i still love this product & am preparing to purchase my third one since i have not found anything comparable that i like better.i like to use it when i travel to keep myself cocooned in this most luxurious feeling fabric regardless of the state of the sheets or blankets i am offered.i use it pulled up to my waist over all my clothes, anytime i will be sitting outdoors when it is cold.at hostels, i use it as a sarong to keep myself decent on the way to the showers.it air dries quite quickly after being washed.

Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10.
Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. Other than the finish (which cries out to be enameled candy-apple red), this is a perfect camp mug, or little pot. It'll cook up a pack and a half of ramen, is about the size, and feels stout as anything. Haven't tried to run it over, but have cooked in it (over the little Triad stove, for which it is a perfect match). It cleans easily, and leaves no trace of the reheating, or the cream of mushroom soup I burned to the bottom of it. It's a mug, it's a pot, it does both things well. The handles are a little skinny, especially if you fill the mug with coffee and have only a semi-firm handshake, but I mention this only for folks who plan on using this every day and have soft little hands.

We really love "EZ Towels"! These are cloth towels that are compressed to size of a large mint candy and they expand to 9" x 10" when placed in water. We place these in cap full of bottled water and it is enough to perfectly moisten the towel for cleaning up hands, faces, tables, etc. (see video)

The package comes with 50 towels and a plastic carrying tube that holds ten of the tablets. These are so convenient because they are so small and easy to carry until needed.

The only note of caution I would make is that these really do look like candy mints, so they should be kept away from little ones.

This line is excellent--and I have seen and heard others complain about bird nesting and losing lures--99% of those issues are user error! You have to be careful spooling your line--keep a steady amount of pressure on the line and keep the pressure point at at least the 1st eye of your rod away while spooling. As for losing lures, almost everyone I know who used braided line loses a few--because we don't tie braided line knots and this stuff will un-knot itself in 1 or 2 casts--and that again is our fault, not the line.
It may take a little more care to prep te line on your reels, but it is well worth it if you fish in and around a lot of structure. I fish for big bass with ultra-light tackle and generally the reel or the rod gives out before this line on those fish.
Read the directions carefully, spool you r line with consistency and learn some new knots and you will have no trouble with any of the issues people are listing on here.

I was a bit curious about its claims to being adjustable, but as far as I can tell it just means you can air it up a little or a lot. Used properly, this line really performs well.If you are using a coffee grinder, make sure you dont overfill the spool and make it a point to slightly "underfill" it.I have also got into the habit of pulling the line tight with my free hand after I close my bail to avoid knots in the spool. I have found that what most people call "wind knots" start as a loop in the spool when the line goes slack after a completed cast.The only time I have had knots just appear in this line is when I overfill or completely fill the spool.
